The Medifast Diet
The Medifast diet provides you a plan called 5 & 1, it means that you will eat five meals, prepared by Medifast and one meal that you make. Meals (made by Medifast) are made from, bars, eggs, shakes, puddings and soup. The meals that you prepare yourself, you should have a great source of proteins and three servings of vegetables. You will eat often, about every 2-3 hours, but the daily intake will be 800-1000 calories.
This is a sample menu for the Medifast diet. Meals can be made from beef vegetable stew, chocolate pudding, blueberry oatmeal, chicken breast, tomato, mushrooms and broccoli.
The benefits of this diet are: it encourages you to eat small meals but, very often, and it provides you an opportunity to work with a health coach. This opportunity to work with a real health coach is maybe the best benefit of this diet. There are very little diet programs that can provide you this. There are some drawbacks because you don’t have enough calories, your body must use fat as a fuel, and this can be harmful to you. Because the fat isn't supposed to be burned first, it is used as a reserve and should be used only when a person doesn’t have enough food. Other ‘’bad’’ thing about this diet is that it forbids fruit, and that can bring a lack of fiber. And, this is a very expensive diet, a 4-week package (contains 143 meals) is $300!
This diet can be very successful in the beginning. You can lose more than 20 pounds in a few months, but you cannot use this diet long time. The good side is that it gives you success and desire, so after a few months you can continue without it.
